Gimp is nice for a free piece of software, but all these years later, it still has a looonng way to go to offer as much as Photoshop does. I also like Toyviewer for a free, lightweight image viewer with some rudimentary editing features. I used it for years on NeXTSTEP machines, and he went Mac about the same time I did and ported it. He hasn't updated it since 2005, but it still works great on PPC Macs. Just the thing when you don't feel like waiting 10 seconds for Photoshop to launch, when all you really need to do is save a .tiff as a .png. Photoshop.
