No one knows exactly when or how the cat first appeared on Earth. Most investigators agree, however, that the cat’s most ancient ancestor probably was a weasellike animal called Miacis, which lived about 40 million or 50 million years ago.
Miacis is believed by many to be the common ancestor of all land-dwelling carnivores, including dogs as well as cats (who would have suspected dogs and cats are cousins?). But apparently the cats existed for millions of years before the first dogs. Perhaps best-known of the prehistoric cats is Smilodon, the saber-toothed cat sometimes called a tiger. Smilodon hunted throughout much of the world but became extinct long ago.
Back to more domestic things, here we are again, at a new edition of our 1001 Cats Blog Carnival. Although they are not yet amongst the famous cats in history, our heroes are certainly aspiring to this status.
Lady Macleod presents the AIM conversation or how I got a cat in Morocco posted at Braveheart-does-the-Maghreb, saying, “how I got a cat in a country that loves cats”.
Robinson Go presents A Comprehensive Blogging Guide posted at Robinson Go dot Com, saying, “a future comprehensive blogging guide that would run for over a year to help aspiring bloggers and above average bloggers and give tips and tricks to optimize their blogging experience.” You may ask yourself what it has to do with cats.
