Passiflora is one of the most beautiful flowers I know. It is quite difficult to grow inside, because it is an exterior plant and it belongs to a warmer climate.

More than one month is necessary for a button to turn into a flower, and the flowers last only for one single day. Have you ever skipped going to work for one day, in order to see your Passiflora blooming? I surely did it, and not once. It was definitely worth postponing everything only to see how the initial “explosion”makes the green counterpetals tear apart, then how the delicate white petals struggle to extend, one by one, revealing the marvellous interior, until all those little purple fingers form a perfect circle.

The perfume is incredibly nice and gentle, you have to smell it from a few inches in order to be able to feel it.

This is my Passiflora. Enjoy! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you. Thank you for being my readers.

If you are already tired of searching the net for free ringtones, or for free online dating, you may discover that there are playable online competitions which can fill in oyur time and bring you a lot of fun. Have you ever played a sim date rpg game? If you did, then you know how much you can get addicted to the adventures of your little (or big) hero, in his quest to charm all girls in the virtual space.

Pico Sim Date 2 is based on a simple story: The bad guy, called Cyclops, has kidnapped Nene, and he made the other 4 girls hate Pico (namely you). In order to find Cyclops and get Nene back, you have to make the 4 girls love you again. Pico starts the Sim Date 2 with a certain amount of Charm, Intelligence and Strength, which can be improved during the game by appropriate training. It is up to you how you distribute the points across the qualities, but keep in mind that intelligence and strength are nothing without charm (as in real life).

Pico Sim 2 Date Hints

Wearing clothes that a girl likes increases Pico’s chances to be liked and to date with that girl.

Pico will get rewards for any smart action that he chooses during the play

Learn different types of attacks by hanging out with different people. Then use these on your enemies.

Pico Sim 2 Date Cheats

For the next month, I’m going to play the game and give you a list of cheats here.

Make sure you bookmark this place (hit Ctrl+D on your keyboard) to come back for more, or leave a comment in the box below and subscribe to comments by email.

What are you cooking these days?

This is a question I’ve heard so many times from all my cooking friends. We exchange ideas and recipes, and sometimes we invite each other to a delicious meal, so we can prove our kitchen talents. I like to cook and to share cooking tips and experiences, but I never thought that I might start a cooking blog.

However, I managed to involve my best friend, Ella, into this blogging stuff (remember, this is how I’ve got the idea of this group writing project), so recently she launched JoinThem!, a blog where she gives us her best recipes, and her best travel tips. She didn’t travel too much, so there are only a few tips for travellers to Paris so far, but she has cooked a lot, so the blog focuses mostly on cooking. And believe me, I’ve been eating a lot of great stuff at Ella’s: my favourites are by far this delicious vegetarian dish recipe (which we call “ghiveci” in Romanian) and the stuffed vegetable marrows, which can make you eat until you cannot move anymore.

While doing some research for Ella’s blog, I was amazed to discover how many great blogs about food and cooking recipes exist. For example, Simply Recipes is simply mouth watering, the turkey tacos with cranberries salsa made me reconsider the use I give to meat leftovers, and the cranberry relish recipe reminded me of childhood.

JoinThem! is updated once a day, so if you want to get fresh cooking ideas, please consider subscribing to Ella’s feed, or, if you want her recipes delivered directly in your inbox, Subscribe to Join Them! by Email. I know at least one of you who will be happy to subscribe (do I hear you, Bes?) as he is a real gourmand. Comments are welcome and highly appreciated (JoinThem! is a Do-follow blog), you can ask Ella about any cooking-related details, and be sure she will be glad to share with you her kitchen secrets.

While browsing the net for fun, I discovered the Ping Pong Door, which reminded me of my childhood, when I used to play ping pong with my brother on the dining table, causing our mother to go crazy. If we only had such a door, like this one designed by Tobias Franzel, everybody would have been happier: us, our mother and our table (which got severe damages from all those hits):

The only drawbacks of this table-door are that it is a little bit too narrow to play double, and you have to decorate one of the rooms to match its green side (green being the color I sincerely hate).

Would you like to join me for a ping-pong game through the doorway?

Lots of pages could be written about the magic of number three. Either bad or good, the “three” was with humankind in one way or another, even from the very beginning. However, in one single case, Mother Nature fooled our number three, making it a little bit too small to fit in this equation. Nobody knew the secret, until one day, when some Egyptian guys thought to measure the unmeasurable, and discovered something that was going to astonish everybody ever since.

This is my challenge to you: given a few facts I’m going to reveal here, you’ll have to guess which is that little thing which made big history, without being exactly a “three”.

Fact 1: Its day is celebrated on March 14 at the Exploratorium in San Francisco (because March 14 is 3/14);

Fact 2: The earliest known reference to it occurs in a Middle Kingdom papyrus scroll, written around 1650 BC by a scribe named Ahmes. He began the scroll with the words: “The Entrance Into the Knowledge of All Existing Things”;

Fact 3: It was discovered by a Greek mathematician named Archimedes. Archimedes wrote about it in a book called The Measurement of a Circle;

Fact 4: All its digits can never be fully known;

Fact 5: Physicists have noted its ubiquity in nature: in the discs of sun and moon, in the double helix of DNA, in the pupil of the eye, in waves and ripples and spectra of all kinds.

Fact 6: It can be used to measure anything circular;

Fact 7: It is so complex that the world’s most powerful computers continue to calculate it;

Fact 8: The Guinness Book of World Records credits Yasumasa Kanada of the University of Tokyo with the most accurate calculation of it;

Fact 9: Scientists use computations that include it to put satellites into orbit.

Come on, please name the monster!

Special mentions: I have to apologize to all my sources for not mentioning them here, but I didn’t want to spoil the surprize). This post is part of Daily Blog Tips Group Writing Project, THREE.

Luckily, English is pretty much international these days. However, when I visited China I had the surprise that many people did not speak anything but Chinese, so my knowledge of three languages was rather useless, as long as I was not able to speak, read or even understand a single Chinese word.

No Language, No Fun

I felt so frustrated in the beginning, because I always like to talk to people in foreign countries I visit, I enjoy conversation, I want to feel the spirit of places, and for this, I need at least to understand the basics of the language spoken by those people. On my way from the airport to the hotel, I started to pay attention to pictures and signs, and as some of them were bilingual, Chinese-English, one hour later I was able to recognize the Chinese word Beijing, even when it was not accompanied by the English spelling.

No Language, Lots of Fun

That was the beginning of the most amusing game I played for three weeks, the duration of my Chinese experience. I looked at things, pointed at them and my host was telling me their Chinese names. Then I repeated until I managed to pronounce correctly. Every now and then, we reversed the roles: my Chinese friend pointed at things and I had to name them back in Chinese. I was astonished to discover that I could remember almost everything: it seems like association is the natural learning way of the brain (indeed, children learn their native tongue by making associations).

Why Learning a Foreign Language Naturally Works Best

Back home, I gave it a thought and this is my explanation of my unexpected evolution:

all progress was made on the spot, with no translation or memorization required

I had immediate feedback on all attempts: my friend rated my prononciation on the spot and made the eventual corrections, sol I always knew where I stood

the learning process was continuous and gradual: we played the game all day round, I never know when she’s going to ask me something, and the topics were more and more difficult every day

It is also true that I’m clever Now I’m going to learn Turkish, but this time I want to make it a little bit faster, so I’m going to open an online account with Rosetta Stone
, because they use the same natural way of learning that worked so well in my case.
Their free demo convinced me to give it a try, and the 6 months money back guarantee with no questions is the longest I’ve seen so far. (Special note: Europe residents interested in trying the free online demo of Rosetta Stone, please follow this link: Rosetta Stone Language Software

How many of us, at some stage in life, did not play computer games and even got addicted to some? I surely had my years of glory, chasing enemies in Quake III or in Duke Nukem, trying hard to discover The Secret of Monkey Island, walking in the footsteps of Indiana Jones, playing God with the little Sims, or more recently trying my logic with free sudoku online.

No matter how hard it was, I never thought to look for cheats. I don’t even know if there were any cheats available for my favourite games. The feeling of victory, when the final scene appeared on the computer screen, was so good, after the endless hours, days or even weeks of struggling! I don’t recall myself putting the same amount of passion in none of the real life projects I’ve been a part of.

I’m looking at today’s children (I know I sound like my late grandma) and I wonder every day: 4 years old girl making affiliate sales on her blog about Numberjacks (with a little bit of typing help from her daddy), 12 years old David Wilkinson running TechZi, an already PR5 and 73800 Alexa rank blog, and even my little nephew who is already the father of all Sims and who shared with me his deepest secret: a list of cheat codes of Sims 2 pets, the well-known already patch for Sims 2. This cheat codes list enables changing the pets’ clothings, collars, and even the fur patterns. For all Sims 2 Pets fans, here you can find the list which will make your play even better. To use it, just press F5 to enter the menu, then the Settings button on your screen (the one with two little wheels), then press the key symbol, and in the last menu, press the key symbol again. A text box will appear: input your desired cheat codes there and have fun!

I’ve been tagged by Vivien, at InspirationBit (don’t tell me you don’t read it! are you living under a rock on Mars, or what?), to give you my 8 bits of blog emotions: 5 things I enjoy + 3 things I hate.

The 5 things I enjoy in blogging:

1. Checking statistics. Don’t laugh, I have charts and spreadsheets to monitor my monthly progress, I have planned the traffic (I’m a little bit behind schedule here, you could tell your friends to start reading this blog before it’s too late), I know how much money I am going to make until the end of this year, and I know what I’m going to spend it on.

2. Seeing my pages on the first results page in Google, for so many keywords. This was the initial intention with All Tips And Tricks: to be found in SERPs. I had no idea at that time that there are other ways people can find you on the net. How did you find me, by the way?

3. My readers. When I first discovered Feedburner, and I found out that you can know how many loyal readers you have, I could not believe my eyes: I had 16 readers. That was the day I gave up writing with researched keywords and I started to pay more attention to my articles (thus, I never got the chance to write about mesothelioma lawyers and make money, $70 at a time).

4. Blogging-generated dreams. Yes, I dream a lot and I remember my dreams. I’ll share one with you: in that dream, I was going to the Elite Retreat, and I was supposed to share the room with Wendy, the emomsathome.com artisan. She gave me a welcome present: a very nice pajamas (I appreciated that, because I had forgotten mine at home). Then someone killed one of the main speakers (I believe it was Shoemoney, or Darren Rowse), and we were like in an Agatha Christie novel, wondering who the killer might have been. I suspected John Chow (he branded himself so well, that for me he is top of mind when I think of evil) . Seth Godin was assuring me that John is clean, because they were having a drink together during the time of the crime. I don’t know to this day if John was the murderer, because I woke up too soon. Enough with the dreams, let’s move on!

5. Writing. If only I could write as fast as I think! I like to write, and I like to read what I wrote. I feel good when the article is ready, when I find a nice, representative picture to use with it, and when I do the final corrections. This must be a “left over” from my short happy life as a magazines publisher.

The 3 things I hate in blogging:

1. We are all equal in front of time. Then why can’t I be many of myself? Have you read Luigi Pirandello’s “One, No One and 100,000“? I’d like to be 100,000 of myselves, living 100,000 overlapped lives. I’m so sorry for my other blog, Questallia, which was based on a great idea, and which was supposed to be my serious side of blogging. I had to put it on hold, because I don’t have resources to promote more than one blog at a time (especially that I have to mobilize myself and find some clients before I run out of everything).

2. If you have a great idea, don’t Google it; just write about it! Otherwise, you’ll find out that all interesting topics have already been tackled. There are so many great writers on the web, that if you dare to Google your favorites, you’ll end up in misery, with no subjects for your stories.

3. The A bloggers list. You’ll say now, that’s because I’m not in it. Fair enough. How about the blogging advices we encounter on many of those blogs? Let’s take one: “comment on other blogs! keep the conversation going!” How many A bloggers did you see commenting on your blog? Or even on other A bloggers blogs? Is it true that one hand’s fingers are enough to count them? Here’s a bet I announce now: if I’ll ever see one comment from an A blogger here, I’ll write for him 100 articles for free, on topics at his/her choice (the only string attached here is the author cassette to be published with the articles).

Definitions:

“A Blogger” = Technorati Top 100 (counting by the number of links, not favorites)

“Article” = more than 400 words, at least one picture, organized in a meaningful manner, with the purpose to produce a coherent image about a given topic in the readers’ minds (and eventually, some diggs, slashdots, reddits or similar).

What if all 100 A bloggers leave a comment on my blog? I’ll have to write 10,000 articles! By the time I finish, I’ll become an encyclopedia, don’t you think so?

Back to reality again, I now tag Shaun Carter and StartUp Princess to tell us their 5+3 emotions of blogging.

Many thanks to those of you who sent their (more or less) lucky guesses, or knowledge bits. Not all of them were correct, but even the wrong ones were rewarded, because this blog uses the DoFollow plugin, thus offering commenters SEO accountable links to their sites.

The following entries qualified:

· Mihaï

the air is hot around the flame, when putting the glass, a lot of hot air is captured

a time after the candle extinguishes, the air get cold down, as the volume and mass remain the same, the pressure inside goes down too

the pressure inside will be less than the pressure outside, and the water is pushed inside by the outside pressure

· Julie

The hot air inside the glass is less dense (and thus at a lower pressure) than the cooler outside air. The difference creates suction, which pulls the water inside the glass.

· Susan

The basic premise is the change in air pressure. When the open end of the cup is submerged in the water it creates a type of water seal preventing additional air from entering the space. When the candle is lit it begins to heat up the air around it, burning the oxygen up and according to Boyle’s law, when a gas (air) is heated its density is reduced. (This is the motive “force” behind hot air balloons by the way). The reduced density of the hot air in a closed container creates a vacuum.

The air pressure being exerted on the water outside of the jar is greater than that being exerted inside the jar so the water moves towards the path of less resistance and pushes itself inside. Technically if there were enough water and the candle was allowed to burn itself out, the water would fill approximate 1/5th of the volume available inside the jar since air is almost 20% oxygen.

· Scott

Synopsis (I’d copy and paste but don’t want the duplicate content penalty )

1) Jar holds a finite amount of air

2) Candle heats up air

3) PV=nRT dictates that under finite volume hotter air increases pressure

4) High pressure air bubbles out of the jar

5) Candle burns out => air cools down

6) Air pressure in jar decreases

7) Water in jar rises until the pressure difference between the jar and the atmosphere equals the height of the column of water * density of water * gravity

All four entries are correct. Many thanks to all participants, and here we have the winners:

- One year free hosting for a domain: Mihai, Susan and Steve

- One free link to All Tips And Tricks plus one free review of her blog: Julie

The choice was made taking into consideration that Julie did not fully respect the terms of the contest (she did not link back to this site). However, because I liked her answer, I decided to give her the free review of her blog, as a consolation prize.

Congratulations to the winners! I’ll contact you via e-mail over the next few days, to arrange the details of your hosting accounts. You must have the domain names already bought, as the prize includes only the hosting.

More contests are coming soon! If you don’t want to miss them, make sure you subscribe to my feed.
