When I first learned about Google Adsense and its mechanism, my thought was that finally there is a smart advertising system that works. I say this because I am one of the people who were really upset of the thousands of pop-up, pop-under, pop-whatever ads jumped into my face while surfing the net, disturbing and annoying me with all sort of gambling, dating, making money or sex sites. I thought a bit deeper: why those things annoyed me so badly?
One:I hated the way they came. It is not a pleasure when you click on some info you want to see in detail, and, instead of that, something else to load, wasting your time and taking your patience to its end. Two:I was not interested in things they promoted. Why on Earth should I read some jokes online when I’m currently seeking cancer info because my mother has it and I strive to do anything to help her or to ease her pain?
With Google Adsense, everything has a sense now and I find myself not being annoyed by this kind of system at all. Why? One: They are on the page from the very beginning, not overloading, not delaying my browsing. Two:They are of interest to me in this very moment, when I’m browsing. Many times I found them more helpful than the site I found them on. It is like somebody else does the search for me and brings me the results without my slightest contribution. Great!
These being said, I don’t see anything bad with sites that host such ads. It is purely my choice to click on them or not. This is why my site also hosts them, although I got some negative reactions such as “all you care about is money”, “why are you doing it so commercial”, “it’s full of ads and your content is poor”. Ok guys, I’m not here to please every one of you. The info I’m putting here is for people who are interested in it, who search for it, who can and want to use it. If one does not belong in these categories, there is a small “x-button” on the top right corner – just click on it and see this page no more. It works like that for any other page, you know.
Coming back to the point: after seeing Adsense at work, I wondered how I could find out which are the best paying keywords. I found some lists on the net, and I was surprised by some of the words there. One of them was mesothelioma, with the variant “mesothelioma lawyers”. I have never ever heard this word in my life and now I find it on a lot of lists and on millions of sites. Did you know that a Google search by “mesothelioma lawyers” returns 8.490.000 results?
Anyway, after all this research, here’s the top 10 paying keywords, as found on many sites:
chicago personal injury lawyer
chicago personal injury attorney
lasik new york city
new york personal injury lawyer
new jersey car insurance
new york personal injury attorney
chicago personal injury lawyers
mesothelioma lawyers
atlanta personal injury lawyer
new york personal injury lawyers
I don’t know what to say. I don’t think that this is a proper way to build a website, starting from some words which may be high paying today but get completely lost in a few months or years. Even though you might earn some money quickly, this would be only a boom and not a business and you will end up thinking of starting again from the scratch. While if you build a content which is valuable beyond time, people will keep coming back to read some more of it and you’ll get a steady amount of traffic, which will generate more income over time than a “fashionable finding”.
I’m curious to see which ads are going to be placed on this page and then I’ll make a projection to see how it performs in terms of CTR and CPM compared to other pages and I’ll publish some conclusions.
Highest paying keywords – is it worth trying to find them?
