And just a nit-picking point, Esperanto took words from many existing languages NOT to make it mutually intelligible to everyone (that would quite clearly be impossible, if you just gave it a moment's thought!), but to make it easier for a large chunk of the world's population to learn, in particular those with knowledge of Western European languages such as English, Latin, French, German, etc....
