Usually, experts in blogging, or in communication in general, advise us to write for the readers, or not to use so much the particle “I”, or to use bulleted lists and short paragraphs.
Jessica Duquette, the voice of Career Mom Radio, contradicts all these experts (at least at the first glance), by letting us know from the very beginning that “It’s not about your stuff”, but “It’s all about me, isn’t it?”
Her blog is centered on de-cluttering, be it physically or mentally, so after reading a few articles, you realize that it is all about the stuff which we clutter day by day. Yet it is not our stuff, because we barely need it and we don’t use it at all.
This is how Jessica describes her mission:
My gift as an organizer is to help people navigate the shark-infested waters of letting go of the things in their life that no longer serve them. Please visit my lifestyle strategy blog at www.itsnotaboutyourstuff.com
Has it ever happened to you that an old relative dies, and you help your family to sort the deceased person’s stuff? It is unbelievable how many items we can collect in a lifetime. From old, rusty screws, to pieces of wood, or to old coins, things beyond our imagination are piled and stored everywhere, not used since maybe a decade ago.
I have a principle: if you did not use an item over the past two years, throw it away! It’s very little probable that you really need it. I can tell you this works.
Jessica Duquette turned the need of de-cluttering into a successful business:
When I moved to LA in the summer of 2000, I started my company, In Perfect Order, armed with a ground-breaking perspective on clearing and harmonizing space by blending lifestyle management coaching with hands-on professional organizing services.
Over the last few years, I have assembled a crackerjack team that specializes in transforming homes, garages and offices into efficient, usable spaces that our clients love to live, play and work in. We also can pack you up and project-manage your move anywhere in the world!
My team works in the Los Angeles area, primarily the San Fernando Valley and the West Side and Santa Monica, however, we are available to travel anywhere in the world.
In case you want to give it a thought, you can find out why we clutter, making us ask what we want from life. Or we can discover that we need to let go: release our emotional stuff along with the clutter.
You can extend this whole stuff to your office, and discover a Feng Shui remedy for getting rid of creepy co-workers.
When it comes about money, Jessica explains us what is the zero based budget, and how to manage our finances better.
Less than one year old, “It’s not about your stuff” already offers quite a big number of articles, very useful if you consider putting some order into your stuff and get things done (or get rid of things).
Thank you Jessica, for reminding us that life is not a bunch of items, or hard feelings, or bad memories stored in our homes or in our minds. Indeed it’s time to let go! You are invited to take your Rolling Blogroll badge and put it on your site.
