Top 5 free SEO tools online

SEO tools play an important role in bringing more traffic to a website. There are also other means to attract traffic, but if the webmaster wishes to monetize that site, then it is good to know that natural search engines traffic brings in higher CPR rates than traffic generated by social networking sites. In the beginning, webmasters would seek for free SEO tools, either because they do not trust the power of optimisation (and they don’t want to put money in something they don’t believe in), or because they don’t earn enough money to pay for such tools (there are lost of active sites run by teenagers). Usually, there is a saying that what you pay for is what you get. Well, this is not entirely true when it comes about SEO tools.

This is an overview of the best places that offer free SEO tools:

  1. SEOmoz. This is a Seattle based search engine optimization company, providing SEO / Web Marketing services to companies around the world, and serving as an educational and news hub for the SEO/M Community. SEOmoz offers several free SEO tools:
    1. Page Strength SEO Tool. The tool is designed to satisfy the curiosity of webmasters, surfers and web marketing professionals seeking a better metric to quickly assess a site/page’s relative importance and visibility.
    2. Keyword Difficulty Tool. This is extremely useful for analysing the competitive landscape for particular keywords, as it offers detailed analysis of top 10 Google and Yahoo competitors. The assessment is based on a 7 steps difficulty ladder, each step containing directions of what needs to be done in order to be successful in your given conditions.
    3. Future SEO tools: SEOmoz will offer two more tools: Sandbox Detection and Rank Check. For the moment, only general info about the is available.
  2. Digital Point
    1. Keyword suggestion tool. This shows you the results of a query from both Wordtracker and Overture for determining which phrases are searched most often. It also offers suggestions for alternate (but similar) keywords.
    2. Then, once you know the keywords you want to target, you can use Digital Point’s free keyword position tracking tool to monitor your placement progress.
  3. NicheBot. Based on your keywords, it returns top 10 keyword discovery listings, providing you the count, competition, ratio and KEI for each listing. The same analysis is available for Wordtracker and Overture. They also offer a tool for Google rank checking.
  4. Google AdWords Keyword tool. You can check keywords popularity (competition and search volume) and the global search volume trend.
  5. SEO Book offers a research tool that you can also put on your site. Their tool is driven off the Overture keyword suggestion tool and it offers suggested monthly regional search volumes by market for Google, Yahoo!, and MSN.

Whatever tools you may choose for your research, you should bear in mind that they are only informative and nobody can guarantee your results. Nevertheless, such tools are useful to provide you with a broad picture of the markets you decide to compete in.
