Your evolution to a good SEO consultant:
1. The more you practice, the better you are. As SEO is a continuous and long term process, in which you learn a lot by endless trial-success-trial-failure loops, it can take several years until you can show some remarkable results and build credibility.
2. The better you are, the bigger your internet income can be.
3. The bigger your internet income, the smaller your patience of listening to clients saying to you whenever they think you are wrong “look, this is my money, so you must do what I say!”
4. With secured living and low on patience, you can afford to become very picky when it comes to clients, so you get some only when you want to buy a new super car and you don’t want to disturb your financial balance.
And now, let’s take a look at the dark side of the SEO consultancy Moon:
1. The more you practice, the more hungry you get. By the time when you’ll know what to do to be the first in Google for the words “good web hosting”, you’ll have already been out of shoes, out of nice things to wear, of shampoo, of shaving cream… If you have some savings, this process can take between 6 months to one year.
2. Going low on fuel, you decide to go fishing for clients. Problem: clients who hire no-names are willing to pay no-money, regardless the quality of the services they get. As always, the big money goes with big names (sometimes, regardless the quality of the services they get).
3. At this point, 90% of the people would get depressed and find themselves a cubicle to pay their bills, 8% would marry somebody richer and 1% would go suicidal.
4. The remaining 1% are the ones who choose to build skills to pay the bills, in the paradise of tropical SEO, free to wolf-howl as they wish, finding time to write good SEO Books which others would sell for them, while they put their SEOblackhat on and start building the SEOpedia, another kind of encyclopaedia, or SEOmoz, another kind of wizard of Oz.
OK, This statistic is made up, but it doesn’t change the reality. Which is that good SEO consultants are rare.
